Does having Faith have a place in being an Artist?
My Journey From Alternative Music to Christian DJ and Music Producer
I started listening to music passionately when I was around 12 or 13 years old. Before then, most of my exposure to music came from my parents. They listened to artists and groups like the Bee Gees, ABBA, Josh Groban, and Andrea Bocelli. As you can probably tell, my parents had a fairly conservative and diverse taste in music.
It wasn't until middle school that I began discovering the music my generation was listening to. I remember having a conversation with a friend who mentioned a band called Taking Back Sunday. I had no idea who they were, so I asked him what it was. He told me they were a band and encouraged me to give their music a listen.
That simple conversation opened the door to an entirely new world.
I began exploring the alternative music scene, discovering new bands, sounds, and styles. I quickly realized that music wasn't just something I wanted to listen to—it was something I wanted to create. Music became a way for me to express myself, connect with others, and discover my own identity as a creative.
Eventually, three of my friends and I started our own band. We never ended up signing with a record label, but the experience of writing songs, producing music, rehearsing, and performing for other people had a lasting impact on me. That experience ultimately set me on a path toward becoming a solo artist, music producer, and DJ.
Interestingly, our band was also a Christian alternative band, which became an important part of my musical journey.
Faith, Creativity, and Christian Music
As a Christian, I've come to believe that our faith shouldn't be separated from our creativity. Whether I'm writing lyrics, producing a song, creating a chord progression, or performing as a DJ, I want my faith in Christ to remain at the center of what I do.
I accepted Jesus as my Savior during my teenage years, and since then, I've continued to understand how my relationship with God shapes my creativity and purpose. For me, Christian music isn't simply about putting Christian lyrics into a song. It's about creating from a place of genuine faith, passion, gratitude, and love for God.
Whether I'm creating Christian dance music, Christian R&B, Christian hip-hop, worship-inspired music, or performing as a Christian DJ, my goal is for people to experience something meaningful. I want people to feel the passion I have for God and recognize the love He has for us.
I believe creativity is one of the many gifts God gives us, and I want to use the gifts I've been given to honor Him.
Matthew 28:18–20 reminds us of the Great Commission and our responsibility as followers of Christ to share the Gospel and make disciples. For me, music is one of the ways I can contribute to that mission.
Whether I'm behind the DJ booth, producing music in the studio, writing a song, or simply sharing my story, I want everything I create to point back to Christ.
My journey started with alternative music as a teenager, but it ultimately became something much bigger: a journey of faith, creativity, music, and purpose.
